Here in the UK we tend to see that golfers who have all of the gear at club level tend to be showing off they can afford great and expensive equipment which in turn tends to be frowned upon by fellow golfers.
So is looking good on the course a psychological problem that will make you more self conscious or is it that those golfers who do look to have all of the kit are just more confident.
Golf and Golfers tend to carry their own fashion designs. Looking at John Daly’s attire on the course this spring and summer with those load trousers and for some time now the likes of Ian Poulter who now has his own clothing range. It’s becoming more acceptable to dress up to play golf that to dress down but it does not suit everyone especially the less confident. I would thing both Ian Poulter and John Daly do not lack confidence.
Many clothing manufactures have see a gap in the market and are now producing clothing for the course that bridges the gap between what was seen golf clothes and fashion clothes.
The European and especially the Scandinavian clothing companies have realized that golfers indeed want to look smart but not stand out too much. So everyone can recognize they play golfer may be.
Stromberg Golf Trousers are a great example of one such company. Designing trousers and shorts that are individual yet are able to wear everyday off the course or even in the office. The secret in my opinion are for manufactures to develop products that are original yet discrete that can give you some identity yet can be worn in everyday use.
Perhaps we are seeing a merging of the golf clothing market and the high street clothing market in much the same way that we have seen the shoe market where many high street companies now produce sports and casual shoes.
